Since 2010, Neil’s practice has focused on the areas of business valuation, damage quantification, and complex litigation support services. He provides independent and objective business valuations for shareholder transactions, mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting and fairness opinions as well as succession, tax and corporate planning.

Neil has a diverse litigation support practice. He assists with shareholder disputes, class actions, economic loss analyses, intellectual property disputes, tax litigation and other commercial litigation matters. He has testified in Canadian courts as a qualified expert in business valuation, damages quantification, and corporate finance including in the Tax Court of Canada, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and in private arbitrations.

Neil has provided oral testimony in several high-stakes commercial disputes including Grimes v. Her Majesty the Queen, a landmark Tax Court of Canada dispute involving the valuation of several classes of closely held shares in a family-controlled construction business. In CAE Inc. v. Her Majesty the Queen, Neil was qualified as an expert in the valuation of debt and equity securities and assessed the commercial nature of a government financing arrangement. Other notable cases include 1511419 Ontario Inc. (Cash Store) v. KPMG LLP, Quadrangle Group v. Attorney General of Canada, and Paid Search Engine Tools, LLC v. Google Canada Corporation.

Neil is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) placing on the National Honour Roll on the 2008 Uniform Final Evaluation, a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and holds a Certificate in Financial Forensics (CFF). Neil holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and graduated with High Distinction from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Neil is the 2023 recipient of the Top CBV Under 40 Award in Memory of David Cornfield, an award that recognizes an emerging CBV under the age of 40 who demonstrates outstanding professional achievement, community involvement and brings distinction to the business valuation profession. Neil has authored several articles and leading texts on business valuation and related topics for publications such as the Global Damages Review, Canadian Franchise Guide and The Advocates’ Journal.

Prior to co-founding Soriano Mizrahi de Gray Inc., Neil was a Managing Director at a leading financial advisory, restructuring and valuations boutique in Toronto. Previously, he worked at a leading international valuation and disputes services consultancy and a global accounting firm.
